The municipal labour dispute in Kitimat may be over, but it appears emotions continue to run high and impact relations.
In a letter sent to council, Unifor Local 2301 has asked that mayor and council not to attend their annual Labour Day picnic in September.
Kitimat mayor Phil Germuth says it’s disappointing as the picnic could have been opportunity to rebuild the relationship, but they will respect their wishes.
He says there hasn’t been anything to indicate any bad blood between the city and workers since the dispute ended.
Germuth says that there is nothing in the letter to indicate that it was sent in confidence, and adds that all letters to mayor and council are public documents.
The Labour Day picnic takes place on September 7.
