Northern BC anti-violence programs get funding

Addressing violence against young women and girls in the Lakes District- it’s one of a number of northern B.C. projects being funded by province’s civil forfeiture grant program.

Carrier Sekani Family Services is getting $30,000 to set up the action plan in the Burns Lake area.

The University of Northern BC plans to study the connection between sexual victimization and hitchhiking, transportation options for women with the nearly $29,000 in funding.

The Northern First Nations Child and Family Services Council Society will put its $30,000 toward establishing the First Nations Child Advocacy Centre of Northern BC.

The B.C. government says this year’s priority focus for the grant program is on initiatives that address violence against women.
