First Nations will benefit from the latest outlay of economic development funding from the Northern Development Initiatives Trust.
The Metlakatla Band Council will use $375,000 to address large scale production capacity and develop market expansion for the shellfish aquaculture industry along the North Coast.
The Williams Lake Indian Band be able to examine land-based regulations needed for future development of the Coyote Rock area with the help of just over $50,000. It’s hoped that the development area would broaden the community’s tax base, create employment and business opportunities and fill the need for much needed new housing stock in the Williams Lake area.
Over $236 000 was approved for the Lillooet Tribal Council to develop of a Community Adult Basic Education Learning Centre.
The City of Quesnel will get over $570,000 for upgrades at a number of facilities as part of the community’s destination development strategy to develop advanced hosting capabilities.
Williams Lake will get $35,000 to create an economic development strategy to overcome challenges related to wildfire recovery work.
The funding comes from the NDIT’s Strategic Initiatives Fund to support long-term economic transformation and sustainability.
