Young children in Terrace are set to recieve better car, closer to home following a year of collaborations.
The BC Children’s Hospital and Northern Health have teamed up in an endeavour that allows staff at Mills Memorial Hospital to connect directly with top specialists in real time.
The Tele-pediatric intensive care unit (Tele-PICU) is a mobile cart which allows the hospital to connect with BC Children’s Hospital through videoconferencing.
Terrace is the just the second northern community to join the program.
The program already paid off last month when it allowed a seriously ill child to be treated in Terrace, rather than being sent somewhere else for care.
The two hospitals worked together via high tech equipment and cameras to ensure the patient’s health while keeping them with their friends and family in Terrace.
