Northern Health will using video to help patients check-in at hospitals after-hours.
The health authority says the video will be used for patients making non-emergency visits.
Northern Health’s Andrea Palmer says clinical nurses will do a medical check with patients when they first come in.
The patient is then sent to a video phone where they will go register with their care numbers and other personal information.
Palmer says registration clerks will be based at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.
She says this will help hospitals free-up staff who have limited resources after hours.
Palmer says Interior Health has a similar model in place, although they use phones without a video element.
The program will be phased into hospitals by the end of June.
