It was all smiles and high-fives Thursday for a delegation of Northern B.C. mayors in Ottawa to press for LNG development.
Kitimat mayor Phil Germuth says the group was extremely happy with the NDP government’s new framework on natural gas development.
Germuth says the federal government was also very receptive to the delegation’s push for tariff exemptions on imported LNG modules.
The Haisla Nation says it’s also pleased with the NDP measures, calling it a milestone that will allow BC’s LNG industry to be competitive globally.
Chief Councillor Crystal Smith says the announcement shows that the government can make tough decisions despite what she calls “threats from those in the minority”.
