Three cities are joinging forces with a regional district to make jobs in the Northwest look more attractive.
Terrace, Prince Rupert, Kitimat, and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine are looking to start the Northwest Resident and Workforce Attraction Project.
The Project aims to bring new residents in to fill vacant high priority positions in the region’s workforce.
Each community has allocated 7,500 dollars for the first year of the five year project, with more funding in the form of grant money expected.
Over 350 thousand dollars in grants and special project funding have already been applied for, with expectations that major local businesses could join in on the project as well.
The plan will employ media and P-R campaigns, as well as further research and web portal development.
The Project aims to fill the more than 1 thousand jobs expected to open up during the next 5 years.
