A fresh government-to-government agreement will see the province inch closer to reconcilliation with the Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw.
Stemming from a July 22nd treaty agreement-in-principle, today’s announcement marks the first step towards completing a final treaty.
Under the agreement, the pair will work together to develop new approaches to land and resource management, economic development, and a more efficient process for natural resource consultations.
Regular meetings between the NStQ and the province will also be set up to discuss topics of mutual interest, and how to develop better relationships with other branches of government.
There is still work to be done ahead of a final treaty agreement, however, but toth sides say they are committed to completing the negotiations.
