More nurse practitioners are wanted by Burns Lake Council.
Mayor Chris Beach says they passed a resolution calling for increased funding to hire more nurse practitioners in rural B.C.
Mayor Beach says the additional nurse practitioners will reduce the strain on current health care staff in the area and reduce wait times for patients.
The mayor will bring up the issue at the next meeting of the North Central Government Association, which represents northern B.C. municipalities.
It’s hoped the resolution will make it through various municipal organizations and eventually get to the province.
Mayor Beach feels this will be something a lot of northern B.C communities will have an interest in.
He says if the it resolution doesn’t make it through those steps, council will explore other funding options.
The North Central Local Government Association meeting will be held in May in Terrace.
