Northwest Community College has announced an $18.4-million dollar upgrade for their trades facility.

The college says this will help modernize their current building and equipment.

The province will giving $11.87 million towards the project while the federal government will give $6.31-million.

NWCC President Ken Burt says it’s great that two levels of government are able to chip in the money.

Minister John Rustad says this announcement was in the works long before election talks came up.

The province also announced an additional $187,00 to purchase new equipment and $1.6-million to go toward the training programs.

While Skeena MLA Robin Austin is happy NWCC is getting funds for upgrades, he believes the province should spend more time ensuring the employers are there for the students.

NWCC expects the project to be completed in August of 2018.
