A Northwest Community College instructor has returned from a deep ocean exploration.
Pouyan Mahboubi is the head of the Applied Coastal Ecology department at NWCC.
He just returned from a two week research mission led by Ocean Networks Canada.
The non-profit group operates two networks off the BC coast that collects data from the still relatively unknown ocean floor.
The two networks have a variety of observatories that collects data and transmits it online for scientists.
He says a community network will soon be coming online in Prince Rupert.
The current plan is for NWCC students to monitor and collect the data from the Prince Rupert network.
To prepare students, the Applied Coastal Ecology department will be offering two new courses next year.
