Northwest Community College is looking to make Prince Rupert and Terrace home to an industry first training program.
The College is pairing with Alta Gas to bring a mobile training lab and partner course to the area.
The gas processing operators course will specialize in training students on equipment being installed at the new Ridley Island Propane Terminal and will include a paid placement at the Terminal.
A presentation to Terrace Council yesterday saw the groups request a letter of support from council to purchase the mobile training lab, which was carried.
A 3 year plan will see the course expanded beyond Terrace and Prince Rupert in the third year.
Northwest Community College currently has 3 mobile training units in service for other courses, serving 104 students across 6 courses, over half of which are Aboriginal.
