As of today, Northwest Community College is no more.
The post secondary school is now known as Coast Mountain College.
Coast Mountain College President and CEO Ken Burt says the school’s “new, unique” name reflects its goal to become the college of choice for experiential place-based learning.
The college says the name change comes after two and a half years of research, community engagement, and planning which involved staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community members.
Coast Mount College says the logo colour is a nod to the glaciers and rivers that define the area. It includes C-shaped forms referring to the coastal areas of the region and an M shape that represents the mountains. The top of the visual identity is reminiscent of a mountain with the lower portion of the logo represents the coastline reflection and the rivers, waterways and ocean waters.
While the name and logo has changed, the college says its core offerings continue, including field schools which connect students to their studies outside the classroom and its trades programs.
