One in custody after Prince George hospital kidnapping

Prince George RCMP have a 44-year-old man in custody and have returned a 50-year-old woman to hospital after a kidnapping drama that unfolded Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the University Hospital of Northern BC shortly before 1:00 PM when a man was seen pushing a woman out of the facility and forcing her into a red, older model Honda hatchback against her will.  Checks of the hospital confirmed that a 50-year-old female patient was unaccounted for and had not been discharged.

RCMP released a picture of the suspect along with a surveillance shot from the hospital and alerted the public that the man in question was considered violent.

Officers found the suspect vehicle on a residential street of Prince George at about 7:00 PM.  RCMP converged on the home and located both the suspect and the kidnapping victim.  The woman, who is known to the suspect, was transported back to hospital.  Investigators say they do not know at this point if she was injured during the kidnapping.

RCMP want the suspect, 44-year-old Lash Leroux, remanded in custody until court Monday.

Contact Prince George RCMP or Crimestoppers if you have any information about the incident.
