In an effort to preserve salmon stocks, the Pacific Salmon Commission has recommended a conservation plan that would see a 12.5 percent reduction in BC chinook fisheries.
Two years of intense negotiations with First Nations, the Federal government, and Provincial government helped structure the agreement, which must still be approved by both Canada and the U.S.
If approved, the plan would run from 2019-2028 and cover pink, coho, sockeye, and chum in addition to chinook and would span from Oregon and Washington, to BC, to Alaska.
The current agreement expires at the end of this year.
