Parks Canada boat catches fire at Queen Charlotte dock

GH II 2Fire crews were called out to the Village of Queen Charlotte Wharf this morning for a fire on a vessel at the dock.
Flames a smoke could be seen coming from the vessel Gwaii Haanas II.

Greg Martin is the mayor of the village and says the vessel was getting ready for deployment.

Martin says fortunately there were no injuries or damage to the dock or surrounding vessels, praising the quick response of the volunteer fire department.

The 17-metre ship is owned by Parks Canada and performs a variety of functions as the Park’s main vessel.

Little is known about the extent of damage, but the fire department will be investigating.
