The North West Regional Hospital District has started a petition calling on the province to upgrade Mills Memorial Hospital.
Officials hope the petition will pressure the province to start the upgrades as fast as they can.
Chair Harry Nyce says the petition will allow many to voice their frustrations about the current state of the facility.
Nyce says an upgraded hospital is important for the area if sectors like mining continue to grow.
The province, including the Premier Christy Clark, have said the hospital does need to be improved.
Currently, there are no immediate plans by the province to construct an improved facility.
The petition can be found here.
