A new plaque commemorating the Terrace District Teachers’ Association is set to be raised next week.
The plaque will pay homage to a 1981 protest by the Association that helped lead the way in the BC Teachers Federation’s fight for full bargaining rights.
Following the forced transfer and demotion of two of their members, the teachers participated in a staged walkout on May 6th, led by President Wayne Wyatt.
Later, to further protest the Board’s treatment of its members, the Association went on strike 6 day strike beginning on June 12th, a full 6 years before teachers won the right to strike.
The BC Labour Heritage Plaque Dedication will take place during a ceremony at the Terrace Sportsplex from 3:30 to 5:30 on October 5th.
