Pacific Northern Gas says its crews plan to work through the weekend in order to repair the gas line that serves North Coast customers.
The company says the natural gas line, which runs between Terrace and Prince Rupert was damaged sometime Wednesday, causing a pressure drop in the line at 5:30 p.m.
Officials say crews have located the damaged section and have mobilized repair crews to the remote site.
While there have been no service interruptions, PNG continues to ask customers in Prince Rupert and Port Edward to minimize their natural gas usage by lowering their thermostats and shortening their hot water use.
That may be a tall order for some residents as the temperature is expected to drop to minus 4 Friday night.
PNG says it hopes to have the line fully repaired as soon as possible.
