Prince George RCMP have identified the two men who went missing in the Salmon River last Monday.
Police say 36-year-old Ryan Everett Jenkins of Salmon Valley was snowmobiling when he went into the fast-flowing water north of Prince
RCMP say onlookers tried to rescue Jenkins, including 31-year-old Prince George resident Brandon Warren Lawrence, who ran from the shore and jumped into the water without hesitation. Moments later, both men were swept under a large portion of ice covering the entire width of the river.
Despite an intensive two-and-a-half day search from the land and air, neither of the men were found. The search has been postponed, but may restart when river conditions allow.
RCMP is offering its sympathy to the families and friends of Ryan and Brandon as well as its thanks to Prince George Search and rescue members for their hard work and dedication.
