Expansion of Fairview Container Terminal in Prince Rupert is still under way, but the facility could grow even more.
Terminal owner DP World and the Prince Rupert Port Authority have signed an agreement to study further expansion at the container facility.
Port authority Manager of Corporate Communications Michael Gurney calls it a long-awaited step.
If the Phase II B project proceeds, Gurney says it will mean more capacity and more jobs.
DP World says Phase II South could potentially be delivered within the next three to five years depending on demand.
Phase II North, launched in early 2015, is expected to be complete in 2017, increasing the terminal’s capacity to about 1.3 million TEUs.
