The Port of PrinceRrupert has seen the largest ship yet to tie up at the facility.
The 366 meter Cosco Mimalayas was at the Fairview Terminal last week. Not only was it the largest ship yet to grace the port, it is also the biggest container vessel to dock anywhere in canada.
Shaun Stevenson, the port’s Vice President of Trade says it’s an exciting milestone which represents the continuing growth and expansion of the port. He says they expect to see more large vessels in the future.
The port is finishing up the final componentsd of the terminal expansion which will bring the capacity for shipping containers from 850,000 to 1.3 million. Rail capacity is also being expanded.
Last month saw a near record volume of containers at 12 less than the highest recorded capacity.
