Power outage hits most of northern BC

A massive power outage has hit most of northern BC, with power out from Vanderhoof all the way to Prince Rupert.

According to BC Hydro, the outage was due to lightning. At its peak, nearly 50,000 customers were affected. Currently, BC Hydro’s website says nearly 22,000 customers remain without power.

The utility says technicians are working to restore power.

At CFNR in Terrace, power was down for about 30-minutes.

Update: Only several hundred customers are currently listed as without power according to BC Hydro.
