Premier John Horgan stood before media today to shed some light on the challenges that government faces when dealing with Indigenous title issues.
Horgan’s comments come in response to the on-going situation between RCMP and Indigenous land defenders on Wet’suwet’en territory.
During the press conference, the Premier also addressed the RCMP’s handling of the situation, saying that, while he respects the people’s right to protest, they broke the law and must face the consequences.
Horgan says he expects the RCMP to demonstrate appropriate conduct in carrying out the injunction, and in doing so, respect the rights of Indigenous people on the land.
