Premier Horgan apologizes for mistreatment of Haida totem pole

Premier John Horgan has apologized for the treatment of a Haida totem pole at Peace Arch Provincial Park.

The apology came during a ceremony which saw the replica pole raised to replace a pole that was removed without consultation in 2008.

Horgan acknowledged the province’s wrongdoing in the matter and will issue a formal apology letter when BC legislation resumes.

The original replica pole had been in the park since 1950.
