Premier’s Residential Tenancy Advisor present for consultation in Terrace
BC’s Rental Housing Task Force was in Terrace yesterday as part of their efforts to guage public concerns.
MLA and the Premier’s Advisor on Residential Tenancy, Spencer Chandra Herbert, keyed in on affordability and availability of rental properties during the housing crisis.
Both issues were key factors highlighted by those present for the public consultation.
Renters and landlords alike were also keen for better regulation of the laws surrounding renting in BC.
Small Town Representation
MLA and Housing Task Force member, Ronna-Rae Leonard addressed concerns over small community representation with regards to housing concerns yesterday.
Leonard says that the government recognizes the needs of rural communities, and the fact that the housing affordability crisis is effecting all of BC, not just the Southern Mainland and urban centres.
Rental Affordability for Seniors
Seniors in British Columbia are finding it more and more difficult to keep up with rent, according to MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert.
Though the government recently introduced increases to the Shelter Aid for Elderly Residents program, Herbert claims many don’t even know it exists.
Fellow MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard echoed Herbert’s concerns.
Both MLA’s are members of the government’s Rental Housing Task Force.
