Prince George concluded its first restorative justice case on December 4, where a youth was charged with shoplifting from a local business.
Linda Parker is the Prince George Community Policing Coordinator.
She says restorative justice is a community based solution for community problems.
Parker says the idea of restorative justice works best if the offender shows remorse.
She says the concept of restorative justice isn’t new, and is found in many different cultures.
Prince George RCMP will decide which cases are suitable for restorative justice.
More serious cases may be refered to the Prince George Urban Aboriginal Society, or the regular criminal justice system.
