Prince George mill explosion inquest

A man who worked at a mill in Prince George that exploded three years ago, killing two people, says employees were more concerned about keeping the business open than the presence of dangerous dust.

The coroner’s inquest is investigating what happened in April 2012 when the mill exploded, killing two workers, injuring 22 others and casting a shadow over the industry.

Employee Lorne Hartford says the processing of beetle-killed wood caused dust to accumulate, in some cases making the air so thick workers couldn’t see from one end of the mill to the other.

The blast killed 43-year-old Alan Little and 46-year-old Glenn Roche.
