Prince George youth missing after swimming in Fraser River

Prince George Mounties have suspended their search for a missing swimmer in the Fraser River.

The Prince George RCMP received a call Friday afternoon of a 15 year old boy who had gone underwater while swimming in the Fraser River near Hudson’s Bay Wetland Nature Park.

The RCMP along with search and rescue crews conducted air, land, and water searches throughout Friday, and the weekend, with the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team searching the area on Sunday.

Unfortunately the missing boy wasn’t located.

Corporal Craig Douglass of the Prince George RCMP says with the hot weather, people may be looking for ways to cool off.

The missing boy was identified as William Quail of Prince George.

He’s described as:

·       Caucasian male
·       156 cm (5’5″)
·       54 kg (120 lbs)
·       Short blonde hair
·       Blue eyes
·       Last seen wearing blue jeans, gold and black DC running shoes and a black t-shirt

The RCMP are asking for assistance from the public.

If you were near the Hudson’s Bay Wetland Nature Park or Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park on the afternoon of Friday July 3, 2015 and have any information or may have witnessed these boys prior to the incident, you are asked to contact the Prince George Detachment at 250-561-3300.
