The City of Prince Rupert says higher than average tides and heavy rain has elevated the risk for flooding.
An advisory says the influx of water has left the city’s drainage system for residential, commercial, and industrial areas with a significant surcharge causing some flooding.
Officials are asking residents to be on the lookout for blocked storm catch basins. People can help clear them if safe to do so or contact the city’s after-hours line at (250) 624-3000 to report a problem.
City crews will be working overtime to manage the flood risk and monitor problem areas, especially in the industrial park.
Drivers should be aware of possible road closures or detours.
