RCMP is advising North Coast residents about a scam that has recently surfaced.
Investigators say a Prince Rupert resident received a letter claiming that a possible relative had passed away in Portugal and that a lawyer was trying to disperse a bank account with $2.4 million in it.
The resident in question didn’t have any relatives in Portugal and contacted police.
RCMP determined that the letter was part of a scam aimed at ripping off its victims.
While the person in this case wasn’t fooled, Prince Rupert RCMP is trying to make sure no one gets victimized.
