Prince Rupert marks the official opening of extreme weather shelter

New beds arrived Thursday for Prince Rupert’s newly opened extreme weather shelter.

Mayor Lee Brain and the North Coast Transition Society held an event Thursday afternoon to mark the official opening of the facility.

Brain says volunteers and business worked hard to get the new shelter open for clients last weekend.

Brain says with the shelter now open and new modular units announced by the province, the city now has a short term and long term strategy to address homelessness.

The extreme weather shelter is located at 328 3rd Avenue West and is open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
