Prince Rupert mayor ‘cautiously optimistic’ that Alaska Ferry Terminal upgrade could start up again

Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain says he’s cautiously optimistic that upgrades could start up on the Alaska Ferry Terminal.

The upgrade was halted under the previous federal government over a dispute that American products and labour would be used to complete the project.

Mayor Brain believes that working with the new government and officials in Alaska would allow them to find a compromise.

According to Mayor Brain, only one sailing takes place a week.

He believes an upgraded terminal could trigger Alaska boost the frequency Prince Rupert receives.

The upgrade is worth $20-million and Brain hopes talks about the project can be arranged for as soon as they can.
