The Prince Rupert Port Authority is cleaning up after a minor oil leak.
The leak was discovered on Sunday.
Michael Gurney of the Prince Rupert Port Authority says while it’s a minor leak, the port is taking it seriously.
Gurney suspects the leak is coming from old bunker oil storage tanks up the hill, and that the recent spike in temperature got it hot enough to start oozing.
Gurney says the old pipe has been temporarily plugged, but they’ll need to do some excavation to figure out the source of the pipe for a permanent solution.
He says there’s lots of old undocumented pipes and infrastructure from Prince Rupert’s old industrial days.
He suspects the pipe was probably installed shortly after the Second World War.
