The Prince Rupert Port Authority has announced a new initiative to boost salmon in the Skeena River watershed.
The Skeena River Salmon Enhancement Program will use a million dollars from the port authority’s Community Investment Fund to partner with local groups on projects to increase salmon stocks and work on habitat maintenance and restoration.
A news release from the port says the program is focused on working with First Nations, community groups, and non-governmental organizations and wil fund innovative pilot projects to support the health and sustainability of Skeena River salmon.
The port authority says the program is ready to start evaluating initiatives immediately.
It’s inviting any group working in salmon enhancement and protection to contact them to discuss potential projects.
