DP World, CN and the Port of Prince Rupert have a big party coming up tomorrow.
All the hubb bubb is surrounding the completion of phase two north of the port facility. The grand opening celebration is slated for Tuesday august 29th. At the container terminal with a ribbon cutting at 11 am and an open house will run until until 4:30.
The event is drawing a lot of important people. The Federal Minister of International Trade; Bruce Ralston, BC’s Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology; Harold Leighton Chief of the Metlakatla governing council John Helin, Mayor of Lax Kw’alaamas Band Council; the CEO of DP World and the port as well as the manager of DP World for the Americas, Executive V. P. for CN and of course the port’s CEO Don Krusel
The event will give Rupertites the chance to see the port from the facility itself. Other things scheduled to take place will see a community BBQ, musical entertainment and lots of kids activities.
To avoid vehicle congestion, there will be a free shuttle service from the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre to DP World’s terminal. The shuttle will be running from 12:15 until 4:30. There will be limited parking on-site using access to the terminal off the Yellowhead highway at McMillan Road. For those who want to use their private vehicle you are asked to carpool to reduce congestion further.
