Prince Rupert RCMP are warning the public about a phone scam making the rounds in the community.
Police have received a couple of complaints about suspected fraudsters posing as financial institutions.
In both incidents, the caller tried to gain personal financial information by offering discounted interest rate on credit cards and alleging that fraudulent charges had been incurred.
Police say the callers also tried to gain remote access to the person’s computers.
RCMP say one of the best ways to prevent being scammed is to never give out personal information over the phone, internet, or to people you don’t know or trust.
Anyone with a similar experience should contact the Prince Rupert RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
