Prince Rupert is suggesting an alternative to the Highway 16 transit service being proposed by BC Transit.
The city is hoping to use their partnership with the North Coast Transition Society.
Mayor Lee Brain says the program already offered, gives immediate access for at risk people to get to a safer location.
Mayor Brain says they’re not against the Highway 16 service, they just feel it doesn’t serve their area in the best way.
Local First Nations and surrounding communities are showing support for the idea saying it will help residents in a more timely manner.
Mayor Brain says they already have money allocated for the partnership and are looking at ways during the budget talks to provide reserves for it.
Mayor Brain also pointed to Greyhound, Via Rail, and the Northern Health Connections Bus as other ways to get to and from Terrace from Prince Rupert.
