The City of Prince Rupert is continuing its “Rebuild Rupert” program from the ground up.
Sidewalks along 3rd Avenue from McBride Street to 8th Street will be replaced over the next five years as part of an effort beautify the downtown core.
A city news release says the engineering department has awarded the sidewalk replacement contract to Rupert Wood’n Steel.
Mayor Lee Brain says, over the long term, the city would like to engage residents and businesses to identify how 3rd Avenue could look in the future.
The “Rebuild Rupert” initiative began in July of this year with a joint provincial and federal government commitment of $4.4 million for phase one of upgrades to water lines and dam infrastructure.
The City Engineering Department identified a $259 million infrastructure deficit in 2015.
