Prince Rupert is one of four communities selected to take part in a pilot project that will use technology to make communities safer.
Under the Smart Communities pilot program, the City will receive 22,120 dollars to develop technology which will create solutions to every day problems.
Four projects are already on the slate for the program, including: a mobile app to supply emergency information and updates, an online platform link local charities and volunteers, an online local government engagement platform, and an app which will provide information on road safety and accidents.
Port Alberni and Logan Lake will also take part in the pilot program, as well as a joint venture between Castlegar, Nelson, Rossland, and Trail.
