Proponents of heavy oil tanker ban for the B.C. North Coast are nervous about the federal government’s commitment to the bill.
Supporters have launched an E-petition calling on the federal Liberals to finish the job of legislating a ban on oil tankers in coastal waters including Hecate Strait, Dixon Entrance and Queen Charlotte Sound.
The petition is being sponsored by Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP Nathan Cullen, who says the bill just needs to come back to the House of Commons, says it’s time to finish the job.
The petition, E-1601, was initiated by Marilyn Slett, elected Chief Councillor of the Heiltsuk Tribal Council.
The document is open to signatures until July 25th.
