A group says progress is being made on their proposed bike trail between Smithers and Telkwa.
Cycle 16 Trail Society president Tony Harris says they’re now exploring three potential routes after getting funding from private groups and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
The money allows the society to plan possible designs for a path so residents don’t have to cycle or walk along Highway 16.
The project is expected to cost from 4.5 to 5.5-millions dollars
Harris says they recently had their first annual general meeting and have 300 members in their society.
He adds the trail they’re looking to build is nothing new to the province.
The next steps are finalizing proposals for the province to look over. Harris says while he’s an optimistic guy, he’s hoping to see the trail built in 2019.
