A new Terrace medical clinic nearly saw itself stalled due to parking issues.
The new 10 room clinic is set to be constructed by Terrace Interiors Limited on Lazelle Avenue, one of two new clinics coming to town.
Along with the clinic, a new 6-spot parking lot was proposed to neighbour the building.
The lot would come off of the laneway beside the building with access off of Lazelle, though those leaving the lot would need to back on to the busy street.
The positioning of a fire hydrant eliminated the possibility of giving the lot direct access off of Lazelle.
With between 5 and 6 staff members on site at all times, councilors became quickly concerned that 6 spots would not be sufficient, even with nearby street parking.
Councillor Brian Downey proposed both the idea of making the lot for clients only, forcing staff to park offsite, and creating a 5 minute dropoff zone off of Lazelle.
After a lengthy debate, it was determined that council would rather not see the clinic’s construction delayed due to parking.
The proposal was approved with the understanding that parking would be discussed again in the future.
