The BC Government has announced 4900 affordable rental homes in 42 communities across the province.
Housing minister Selina Robinson says the new projects are aimed squarely at BC’s housing crisis, which has made homes unaffordable for even middle-income families.
Northern BC is getting 78 homes spread over six projects:
Queen Charlotte: 1 project / 4 homes
• $400,000 to Queen Charlotte Heritage Housing Society – 4 homes for families and seniors
Smithers: 1 project / 15 homes
• $1.5 million to Smithers Community Service Association – 15 homes for families and seniors
Valemount: 1 project / 13 homes
• $1.3 million to Valemount Affordable Rentals Society – 13 homes for families and seniors
Vanderhoof: 2 projects / 34 homes
- $2.8 million to Nechako Valley Community Services Society – 28 homes for seniors
- $600,000 to Nechako Valley Community Services Society – 6 homes for seniors and
families
Village of Telkwa: 1 project / 12 homes
• $1.2 million to Telkwa Seniors Housing Society – 12 homes for seniors
The the projects are the first under the government’s Building BC Community Housing Fund, a $1.9-billion investment over 10 years, will build more than 14,000 affordable rental homes.
