The province announced it will be providing $600,000 of $1.2 million for the Pathways to Success program for six First Nations communities.

These communities include the Kitselas, Kitsumkalum, Lax Kw’alaams, Gitxaala, Metlakatla and Gitga’at First Nations in northwestern B.C.

BG Canada, LNG Canada and Pacific NorthWest LNG Industry are providing the other half as industry partners.

Pathways to Success is an employment readiness and job development program that involves classroom instruction on essential skills, as well as job-specific, industry-recognized credentials.

John Rustad is the Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, he announced the funding at the National Aboriginal Business Opportunities Conference in Prince Rupert today.

The program is being delivered in Terrace and Prince Rupert by the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology.

The goal for the next six months is to train 192 participants from all six First Nations.
