The province has announced major changes on the way for salmon farms in BC.
Starting in June of 2022, the province will only grant Land Act tenures to fish farms that both prove to the DFO that their installations will not negatively impact populations, and have negotiated terms with local First Nations.
The meticulous new rules come in to effect in 2022 in order to give farms the time needed to adapt, but also to line up with the expiry of most major fish farm licenses.
