New grants announced this morning by the Ministry of Children and Family Development look to solve the shortage of available child care facilities in BC.
The grants will be available for child care providers who are currently unlicensed to pursue their In Home Multi Age licenses.
Unlicensed providers can care for only two unrelated children at a time, while those with licenses can care for up to eight.
In total the province is investing 750 thousand dollars per year in the program.
Grants of up to 45 hundred will be provided to each individual provider to cover: training fees, application fees, the hiring of replacement staff during training, and the purchasing of necessary equipment.
The program is part of 1 billion in investments being made in the Child Care industry by the province over the next 3 years.
