The province has announced $1.67 Million for 562 trades seats in 13 institutions across BC.
Minister of Advanced Educations, Skills and Training Melanie Mark announced the funding yesterday at the College of the Rockies.
Mark says the funding will go to students that will be building our homes, roads, schools and businesses and that “these students are future innovators. Our investment today in additional trades seats is an investment in the future of our province..”
$65,000 of that money will go to the Northwest Community College for 16 additional trades seats for the 2017-18 school year.
The ministry says these jobs are in high demand in BC due to retirements and economic development, and they intend to increase access to post-secondary education, including more access to trades training opportunities.
The NDP government earlier this month announced they would be waiving tuition fees Basic Education for adults and English language learning and plan to announce interest-free student loans.
