Pollution, safety, and savings are at the heart of a new provincial government initiative announced today.
1.1 billion dollars will be invested over the next 10 years in making BC’s social housing more energy efficient, and less costly to heat.
Boiler and electrical upgrades, window and door replacements, and building envelope repair are all part of the plan which aims to reduce greenhouse emissions by as much as 50 percent.
In addition to the heating upgrades, the program will also improve fire safety features in the province’s 51 thousand publicly funded social housing units.
The program is also expected to create roughly 77 hundred new direct and indirect jobs in the province.
