Province asking people to look out for moose ticks

The province is looking to citizen scientists for help in determining how big of a problem ticks have become for moose across B.C.

Wildlife biologist Dustin Walsh says they’re hoping people who are out in the woods over the next few months will go online and report the condition of any moose they see.

He says the most commonly sighted animal is the so-called ghost moose, because it has scratched away most of its hair, leaving nothing but white skin, and the animal often heads into communities looking for food and safety.

Walsh says there are indications that the Skeena and Omineca regions in the northern part of the province may be especially hard-hit by ticks this year.
